Socket height inconsistencies in Lava Lite/ Schylling Grande (27-inch) lava lamps are common manufacturing defects spanning multiple production years, particularly reported in units from 2004 and modern re-releases from 2021 through 2025.

Manufacturing Years & Issues

• Early Models (c. 2004): Early Grande’s (called Giants at the time)  suffered from sockets sitting too low on short threaded rods, causing extremely slow warm-up times. This is due to they were manufactured with a now discontinued blub
• Recent Production (2021–2023): Newer units frequently experience the opposite issue—variable or incorrect threaded rod placement causing the bulb to sit dangerously high or crooked. This results in the bulb sitting right at or above the base rim, overheating the glass globe, causing erratic wax flow, or sticking out too close to the glass.
