CLOUDY LAMP

A cloudy Lamp is caused by tiny wax particles that have broken away from the wax blob. This can happen during shipping  (usually more in hot weather) or if the lamp has been knocked over or shaken in any way.

One way to clear your globe is to run your lamp in short burst. Turn your lamp on until it’s hot and the wax is flowing. Once the wax is flowing for a while, turn the lamp off to cool. Once the lamp is cool to the touch, you will want to turn it back on.  Repeat the process and allow the lamp to heat up until the lava is flowing once again. You will want to do this several more times.

This action causes the wax particles to pull together upon cooling and more often than not will clear the globe.

I found it easy to just use a 24hr timer (see fig 1) and set it at a minimum of 4 hours on and 2 hours off for lamps sized 14” and 17”. This on and off process can be longer for larger lamps (16.3” & 27”).

You will start to see the globe clearing and should continue the process each day until clarity is reached again.

 

 FLIPPED COIL

During initial warm-up of your Lava Lamp, the coil in the globe may tend to stand on end or float to the top of the globe. If this happens, keep your Lava Lamp operating for four-hours or more to allow the secret solution to become completely melted. The coil should then automatically drop to its correct position at the bottom of the globe. If the coil does not drop down, then twirl the globe GENTLY in the base and the coil will drop. Do not shake and handle with care!

 

NO FLOW

(aka,..The lava is molten and not moving and is sitting at the bottom of the globe)

The lamp has to be warmed up completely (the lava is melted and the lamp has been on for at least four hours) and the lava either settles to the bottom and stops flowing o the lava never flows at all,
Follow the instructions below

• Remove the globe from the base and set it on a flat even surface 

Be very careful as the lamp is hot. Use potholders if necessary. DO NOT shake the globe or turn in end over end as this will damage or permanently ruin the lamp and void any warranty.

 Leave the flat bottom of the globe on the table. Grip the cap and gently turn the globe for about half a minute so the lava rotates around the metal coil inside the very bottom of the glass globe. 

• Put the globe back on the base. The flow usually picks back up within a minute or so. Sometimes you will need to repeat the process several times (or during the next time you run the lamp)
