Globe Refurbishing Instructions - How to use replacement wax

GLOBE REFURBISHING INSTRUCTIONS

EQUIPMENT/SUPPLIES NEEDED

  • Stove/hotplate
  • Deep wide Pan
  • Insulated Gloves (preferably with sticky grip fingers)
  • Bottle Brush or Equivalent
  • Pyrex measuring cup
  • LLC Cleaner or Dawn dish soap
  • Distilled Water (as required)
  • Cooking thermometer

CLEANING A GLOBE

  • Open Globe.
  • Dispose of fluid in globe.
  • Set the globe in pan on stove.
  • Fill water in the pan accordingly so the globe does not float or tip over while heating.
  • Heat until boiling and then turn heat to simmer to maintain temperature.
  • Wait for wax to melt.-DO NOT leave unattended

Put on heat protected gloves or use a pot holder for next steps - The globe will be hot to the touch when heated.
  • When the wax is melted in the globe, remove the globe from pan of hot water.
  • Dispose of the wax accordingly in an appropriate disposable container. - (DO NOT TOSS DOWN THE DRAIN)
  • Let globe cool.
  • Remove the coil rinse in hot water, and set aside.
  • Use hot tap water (or water from pan) and fill the globe.
  • Swirl around until debris is melted.
  • Dump.
  • Add 1-2 oz. of our Cleaner to globe (or another type of degreasing soap) and some hot water.
  • Scrub the globe inside with a bottle brush or equivalent.
  • Dump soap fluid.
  • Rinse and repeat rinse several times with hot tap water. (4/6X)
  • Set aside and to Cool.

DO NOT USE or SWITCH TO COLD WATER DURING THE PROCESS- it could crack the globe!

REPLACEMENT WAX INSTRUCTIONS

NEVER USE A MICROWAVE TO HEAT WAX

  • It will overheat portions of the wax while the rest remains solid thus exceeding the recommended temperature.
  • It also makes the wax dangerously hot and will melt the container.
  • A microwave will also change the delicate chemical properties of the ingredients and waxes.
  • The excess temperatures will not only ruin the wax but could cause a fire

ALWAYS USE A WATER BATH to heat blended lava waxes and have PROPER VENTILATION

  • Remove lid from wax container - NEVER HEAT WITH THE LID TIGHTLY CLOSED - the wax will expand as it melts
  • Place in a pan and fill with enough water to reach one-third to halfway up the sides of the bottle while the bottle is still sitting flat on the bottom of the pan
  • Heat on low until wax is fully melted

IMPORTANT:

  • Add or remove water to the pan accordingly so that the water level is at the proper level; so the wax container does not float, tip over, or fully evaporate.
  • DO NOT put water into the wax container

PREPARE YOUR GLOBE

  • Add 1-2oz of concentrated Surfactant to clean empty globe.
DO NOT USE MAGIC SURF TO COAT THE GLOBE
  • Dilute concentrated Surfactant by adding the same amount of distilled water.
  • Holding your cap or hand over the opening, gently tilt and roll the globe back and forth.
  • The goal is to completely coat the inside with SURF including the neck of the globe.
  • DO NOT SHAKE.
  • Dump remainder of the Diluted Surfactant mixture into a separate bottle for future use and/or discard.

Note: I suggest you do not let any time elapse during these next steps, we find it best to add molten lava to a globe that is freshly coated with SURF to avoid sticking. If you are not ready to pour your wax after coating your globe be sure to cover it so it does not evaporate the coating.

POUR YOUR WAX

  • Put on heat protected gloves or use a pot holder for next steps  –The wax container will be hot
  • When your container of wax is fully melted, remove the container with the molten wax from the pan of water.
  • Ideal pour temp is 140F-160F.
  • Pour into Pyrex measuring cup and measure the required amount for the size globe per supplied chart below.
  • If you are unsure what globe size you have. - See bottom of the page
    • Recommended wax amounts
      • 20oz/14inch lamp           150ML
      • 32oz /17inch lamp          175ML
      • 52oz /16.3inch lamp       230ML
      • 80oz/18.5inch lamp        300ML
      • 250oz/ Grande               940ML (full quart)

  • Add dye at this point, stir until melted and color has adjusted to your desired hue.
  • If needed, place your Pyrex measuring cup into heated water bath to assist with dye saturation.
    • TIP: You can hold Pyrex cup up to a light to see its true color.
  • Use the supplied funnel.
  • With one hand holding the funnel centered, slowly and carefully add molten wax to globe with a consistent pour.
  • DO NOT STOP once you are pouring- Pour with dedication.
  • Add coil.

ALMOST DONE- IMPORTANT

  • Put loaded globe into pan of water on low heat (simmer) for the next 20+ minutes. This will eliminate any bubbles that may have occurred in the wax from pouring it.
  • Turn off heat.
  • Remove the globe and place on a towel on a hard flat surface to fully cool. (Be patient)

 FINAL STEPS

Add Distilled water to 1-1/2 to 2 inches from top of the globe. (do not overfill)
If desired, use LLC available Inks to tint the water to your desired color and intensity.

Turn on power and Run Globe for 2/4hrs until operational.

You can also add Surfactant and/or our Magic Surf additive to achieve desired flow with the Pipette supplied in every kit.

Tip: The more Surfactant(s) you use, the more you will break the surface tension and the more blobs will be created

Wait ½hr. between adjustments of SURFactant and/or Magic SURF so it can fully saturate fluid

Suggested average amounts of SURF(s) are in the chart below (DO NOT EXCEED)

  • 12oz. 2-4ml of SURF + add 0.5-2ml of Magic Surf as needed
  • 20oz. 4-6ml of SURF + add 1-3ml of Magic Surf as needed
  • 32oz. 8-10ml of SURF or optionally add 1-3ml of Magic Surf as needed
  • 52oz. 15-17ml of SURF or optionally add 2-4ml of Magic Surf as needed
  • 250oz. 55-60ml of SURF - No Magic Surf is needed
